Vegetable Compost

Peat-Free Vegetable Compost: the perfect soil enhancer for your vegetable plot or allotment, designed with sustainability in mind.

Our rich-organic compost is formulated without the use of peat, making it an environmentally friendly choice for conscientious gardeners. Peat bogs are vital ecosystems that play a crucial role in carbon sequestration and habitat preservation. By opting for our peat-free compost, you contribute to the conservation of these important natural resources.

When applied in Autumn or Spring, our compost ensures that your vegetables have access to vital nutrients and minerals throughout the entire growing season. Unlike synthetic fertilisers, which can lead to nutrient imbalances or leaching, our compost releases nourishment slowly and gradually. This steady nutrient supply eliminates the risk of nutrient deficiencies and promotes healthy growth and development.

In addition to its nutrient-rich properties, our Peat-Free Vegetable Compost is specifically formulated to improve different types of soil conditions. Whether you're dealing with heavy clay or sandy soil, our compost acts as a soil conditioner, breaking up compacted clay and improving drainage, or enhancing the structure and moisture retention of sandy soil.

We take pride in the quality and safety of our compost production. Our manufacturing process adheres to stringent regulations, ensuring that the compost is of the highest standard. It undergoes regular auditing, chemical analysis, and plant growth sampling to guarantee its safety and effectiveness. Our compost is certified PAS 100, assuring you that it's free from weed seeds and safe for growing food.

Choose our Peat-Free Vegetable Compost today and nurture your vegetable plot with a sustainable and nutrient-rich solution. By making a conscious choice, you contribute to a greener and healthier environment while enjoying a bountiful harvest of delicious homegrown vegetables.

This product can be purchased in bulk bags of 0.75m3 (750 litres) and 1m3 (1,000 litres).

Most up to date nutrient and chemical analysis.

Benefits & Uses

Benefits:

  • Acts as a slow-release fertilizer, providing essential nutrients to plants over an extended period, in contrast to synthetic fertilizers that are quickly released and easily washed away.
  • Enhances water and nutrient retention due to its porous and spongy nature.
  • Improves soil aeration, facilitating the exchange of gases and promoting healthier root development.
  • Enhances drainage, preventing waterlogging and ensuring optimal moisture levels for plants.
  • Helps protect precious topsoil by reducing wind and water erosion.
  • Supports a diverse range of soil bacteria, including those that produce natural antibodies to combat plant diseases.
  • Moderates soil temperature, creating a more stable environment for plant growth.
  • Facilitates the formation of soil aggregates through the action of microorganisms, which release sticky secretions to bind soil particles together.

Uses:

Vegetable Plot or Allotment:

  • Apply a minimum of 5cm (2in) of compost across the entire vegetable bed.
  • It can be dug into the soil or left on top for "No Dig" gardening methods, where worms and weather will incorporate it naturally.
  • Apply in autumn after the growing season or in spring before planting, ideally 2-3 weeks in advance.
  • Add compost to planting holes and seed trenches when planting vegetable plants and seeds.

Fruit Trees:

  • Avoid using compost directly in planting holes, as it may encourage roots to stay within a confined area.
  • Instead, spread compost in a ring around the tree, starting 60cm (24in) away from the trunk and extending 30cm (12in) beyond the drip line (where the leaf canopy ends).
  • Rake the compost into the soil or create shallow holes at regular intervals around the tree and incorporate the compost.

Seedlings:

  • Our compost is suitable for creating a homemade potting mixture for seeds and modules.
  • Use it sparingly due to its high nutrient content, which can cause leggy seedlings.
  • Sieve the compost finely and mix it in a ratio of 1 part compost, 1 part coir or bark fines, and 1 part grit or perlite.
  • Seedlings raised in a greenhouse are susceptible to damping off, a fungal disease. The compost's nutrient content supports strong and healthy growth, increasing resistance to disease pathogens.
