This general budget screened topsoil is ideal for use in turfing and as a soil for making up ground Our topsoil is made up of organic compost and screened soil. 4:1 ratio. We recommend our organic soil improving compost where you just want to feed an already well established growing area and our premium topsoil for new flower and vegetable patches. Benefits: Helps water and nutrient retention because of its porous, spongy nature. Ensures sufficient aeration on soil Provides good drainage Helps prevent wind and water erosion Supports a wide range of soil bacteria, including those that produce natural antibodies to fight against plant disease. Moderates soil temperatures. Helps to form aggregates by the action of soil microorganisms that release sticky secretions to hold soil particles together. Uses: New beds: New beds will need about 20cm (8in) or more Lawns: Before laying lawns: For laying lawns you will need at least 10cm (4in) layer of top soil. Levelling a lawn: Spread topsoil over grass. Ensuring that the ends of grass are not covered. Then rake away excess. This should fill all the hollows and diverts.
